# Ceramic Salt Bath Furnaces

Only the faces of Upton’s submerged electrodes touch the salt, so the electrodes take up none of the bath space.

## Submerged Electrode Placement

Only the electrode faces touch the salt; the electrodes themselves take up none of the bath space.

## Natural Convection

Heated salt rises in the bath while cooler salt falls toward the electrode area for reheating.

## Engineered Triple Ceramic Refractory Wall Construction

The triple refractory wall is designed so the temperature gradient through the wall causes salt penetrating the hardbrick bath liner to solidify within the intermediate castable layers. This construction is designed to limit initial salt absorption into the walls.

## Clear Working and Cleaning Area

The submerged-electrode design leaves the bath free of protruding obstructions for working and maintenance.

## Upton Ceramic Salt Bath Furnace Designs

Upton ceramic salt bath furnaces are available with air- or water-cooled electrodes and transformers for ferrous and non-ferrous thermal processing.

## Thermal Process Applications

Upton salt bath furnaces are used for various high temperature ferrous and non-ferrous thermal processing applications such as neutral hardening, austempering, marquenching, tempering, case hardening and dip brazing.
