# Clam Shell Desludging Mechanisms

Clam shell mechanisms remove oxide buildup and other contaminants from the bottom of high-temperature ceramic salt baths.

## Oxide and Contaminant Removal

Upton’s clam-type desludging unit removes built-up oxides and contaminants from the bottom of high-temperature ceramic salt bath furnaces. Excessive buildup can affect furnace temperature recovery and potentially damage the furnace.

## Clam Shell Unit Operation

The clam-like jaws are designed to collect contaminants for removal from the furnace. The unit can be operated from a monorail service hoist, a forklift boom or the service hoist assembly supplied with Upton automatic hoist systems.

## Sludge Collection

Each unit includes a dump stand and portable sludge collection tray designed for off-line storage during production.
